DATE :  March 9th, 2010   ABSTRACT :

Driven by the emergence of new devices such as the iPhone and Google’s Android operating system, wireless data consumption on mobile devices is exploding. During the last 3 years, AT&T’s data network usage has grown by over 5000%.  Users have grown accustomed to mobile applications, rich (HD) media, and lower cost devices pushing steadily into the mainstream.  WiFi has grown from a PC-centric communication technology, and is expected to ship in close to a billion devices such as mobile phones, TV’s, cameras, and set-top boxes by 2013.  We are seeing the emergence of 60 GHz technology, allowing live streaming of high definition video from DVD players and mobile devices and enabling full desktop capabilities on low-end netbooks and smartphones.  In this event, we will discuss these trends, the technologies driving them, and the winners and losers expected to emerge over the next few years.
