DATE :  Tuesday February 12, 2013   ABSTRACT :  Over the last few years, consolidation across the semi industry has increased. The IPO bar has been increased and the number of semiconductor startups getting early stage funding has reduced. The ability to differentiate on pure digital IC design has drastically gone down and while new chips for SDN, Storage and other new systems markets may evolve, very few of them seems to be from semi startups. The number of semi public companies have reduced at the same time. The only startups that seem to get off the ground are analog companies, 3D chip technologies, IP technologies (specialized IO's) and Mems applications. EDA software has similarly dropped to 3 players and consolidation continues.
