Arrayent, Inc., who sell an end-to-end communication system that enables product companies to connect their products to Internet services at low cost and high reliability, recently announced the availability of its Internet-Connect Tool Kit™ for Embedded Wi-Fi® applications. The Arrayent Tool Kit enables embedded system designers using Microchip Technology Inc.’s Wi-Fi modules to connect their Wi-Fi enabled products to web applications hosted in the “Internet cloud.” SV member Raffy Chatav is an advisor to Arrayent and represents the Silicom Ventures' group investment.

IQwind, an innovator in the wind energy industry focused on leveraging its unique variable gear technology (IQgear) to significantly reduce the cost of energy, has raised additional $3.3m from existing and new investors in the last year as well as receiving strong interest from turbine manufacturers to integrate their product in their turbines and moved forward in developing its first product – the 750kW IQgearbox.

iFly, who provides the experience of flying in an indoor wind tunnel, recently changed its business model from
being licensee to that of a franchisee, giving it the benefit of being part of the IFLY family of tunnels across the USA. 2010 has been a solid year for the operation, as it began to generate sufficient cashflow to provide cash dividends to Silicom Ventures' investors.

eASIC Corporation, who aims to dramatically reducing the overall cost and time-to-production of customized semiconductor devices, recently announced that it is working with Microsoft Corp. on using eASIC’s Nextreme NEW ASICs to create a hardware implementation of the Microsoft RemoteFXTM technology. The fabeless semi-conductor company appointed Richard Heye as its new Chief Operating Officer in June.

Pageonce recently named Steve Schultz as its new chief operating officer. The award-winning personal finance assistant application has increased its users by 300% in just one year and has consistently ranked as one of the most popular finance applications on BlackBerry App WorldTM since it launched in March 2009.

We would like to extend special congratulations to SV members' Merry Sherman and Mark Saifer of Mountain View Pharmaceuticals won FDA approval on September 14, 2010 for their outlicensed drug, KRYSTEXXA(TM) (pegloticase), a PEGylated uric acid specific enzyme indicated for the treatment of chronic gout in adult patients refractory to conventional therapy.

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostics products, and Axis-Shield plc, an international and innovative in vitro diagnostics (IVD) company, announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and U.S. launch of Bio-Rad’s BioPlex® 2200 Anti-CCP test for the early detection of rheumatoid arthritis. SV member Ariel Notcovitch is Division R&D manager at Bio-Rad.

Tigo Energy, who focus on applying innovative technologies to the solar PV space, recently announced a collaboration with SCHOTT Solar. The companies are working together to bring electronic intelligence to the solar module and increase power output. The solar company announced another recent partnership with Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., the world's largest producer of crystalline silicon solar panels, to develop smart panel technology for PV solar installations. SV member Ron Hadar is Tigo Energy's President and COO.

Palo Alto Networks, the network security company, recently received the prestigious recognition of Frost & Sullivan's "2010 Global Entrepreneurial Company of the Year Award" for its accomplishments in the firewall market. Additionally, the Palo Alto Networks Application and Threat Research Team has very lately discovered a critical vulnerability in Adobe Flash Player that could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. The inaugural PMWC 2010, co-hosted by Stanford Hospital & Clinics, was held at the Computer History Museum of Silicon Valley and featured speakers like Dr. Lee Hood of the Institute for Systems Biology, Brook Byers from KCPB and Vance Vanier of Navigenics. The PMWC Israel, co-hosted by Teva Pharmaceuticals, held in Herzliya in June, had a variety of corporations, organizations, startups and universities involved; with the likes of Microsoft, Life Technologies and SAP participating. Both conferences sold-out, with about 400-500 guests, including investors, bio pharma executives, government officials, researchers, academia and payors.

 

The winner of the PMWC 2010 Most Promising Company Award Competition was Quantalife. During the two-day PMWC 2010, 17 select companies participated in the competition. Quantalife develops breakthrough microfluidic technology and proprietary chemistry for nucleic acid testing applications. Since winning, QuantaLife has raised over $11 million in funding. More

The winner of the PMWC Israel Most Promising Company Award Competition was AIT (Applied Immune Technologies). The competition featured 19 rising companies. AIT is a drug development company specializing in T-Cell Receptor-Like (TCRL) antibodies and is a spinoff company of the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. More
