Uri Sivan
|
Professor Uri Sivan, who holds
the Bertoldo Badler Chair in the Faculty of Physics at the Technion,
is the Head of the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute at the
Technion. Prof. Sivan and the center he heads have been carving out
a world-class position for the Technion in research into nanoelectronics,
which is replacing microelectronics in the quest for molecular scale
electronic devices and circuits. The center team has taken a giant
step forward in that quest. Using coded DNA molecules to form a connection
with two coded electrodes, they produced a conductive wire 1000 times
thinner than a human hair. That was the first-ever successful harnessing
of biological molecules for the creation of a working electronic component.
That work, published in the prestigious journal Nature, was extensively
cited also in the media including the BBC, Los Angeles Times, and
many other newspapers and TV programs. In his internationally noted
career, Prof. Sivan has been invited to present his works at more
than 50 major international conferences and has published more than
50 articles in leading professional journals.
