Richard M. Levy, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board, Varian Medical Systems, Inc.

Until recently, Richard Levy was chairman of the Varian Medical Systems Board of Directors, starting in 2002. Varian Medical Systems is a $2.5B leading provider of cancer therapy systems, stereotactic radiosurgery products and x-ray tubes. He was CEO of the company from 1999-2006. Levy holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth college and a doctorate in nuclear chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. Some of Dr. Levy’s current professional associations include membership on the Board of Trustees of the Peninsula Coastal Region of Sutter Health, and the Board of Trustees of Sutter Health where he is Chair of the Finance and Planning Committee. Sutter Health is a $9B Northern California consortium of 26 hospitals and 15 physician foundations. He has been on the Board of the United Way Silicon Valley since 2002, and served as Chairman in 2008-2009. He has been a co-chair of the Advisory Committee of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, as well as Chair of the American Electronics Association. Levy is an active participant in summits for CCI (Center for Corporate Innovation, Inc.), with a focus on improvement of the national healthcare system.
